Slugbotics is a student organization at UC Santa Cruz focused on introducing students to underwater robotics. In the 2017-2018 school year, we designed, fabricated, and programmed our ROV, SEA-ROV, from scratch with a team of 12 dedicated students. This year, we will continue to focus on building an ROV for the MATE competition, but we are also exploring other projects, including faculty research and outreach in the Santa Cruz community.
The MATE Center is a nonprofit organization focused on improving education in marine technology. For over 20 years, MATE has been designated a National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education Center of Excellence. MATE hosts an annual ROV competition where students from around the world design and build underwater ROVs to complete missions designed to simulate real-world tasks.
